Betty Jean Killgore, 85, of Allentown, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twp. She was the wife of William R. Killgore, Sr., with whom she shared over 60 years of marriage. Born in Lehighton, she was the daughter of the late Robert G. and Minnie E. (Smith) Rex. In 1950, she graduated from Lehighton High School and continued with earning her BS in Music Education and Elementary Education from Mansfield State Teachers College and a MSED from Temple University. She was past president of her ADK sorority and of the PDK fraternity.

Betty Jean was a devoted caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. She began her career teaching music and taught elementary education for the Allentown School District for over 30 years. She had a great love for teaching and in 1992, she received an award for Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Mediator, Allentown, where she served on the vestry, as a lector and Chalice Bearer.

She was an active member within the community serving as past president of the auxiliary of Lehigh Valley Hosp., held various offices of the Allentown Art Museum Auxiliary, was a member of the Gnaden Huetten Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine of Jerusalem, Allentown.

Survivors: husband William; son William R., Jr. and his wife Gina Boss of Long Pond; step grandson Joseph T. Boss.

Services: 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 12 at Episcopal Church of the Mediator, 1620 W. Turner St., Allentown. Calling will be held Friday, January 11, 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 W. Highland St., Allentown.
