Ethel Shorter Springer, 89, of Allentown passed away on November 17, 2018. She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Frank Springer.

Ethel was born to the late Harry Shorter and Ethel Grimes Shorter on January 22, 1929, and was raised in Middletown, NY, where she met and married Frank. They both graduated from Florida State University in 1952 before returning to Middletown and then eventually moving to Allentown in 1956. She was a homemaker who kept busy raising five children with her husband and spending time with her many friends. After her children were grown, she worked in several doctor’s offices.

In her free time, Ethel enjoyed sewing and knitting and was an avid reader of mystery and suspense novels. She also loved baking and was known for her desserts and the wide variety of Christmas cookies she made each year.

Ethel always enjoyed visits from family and friends. She is survived by her sister Nancy Shorter Yackovich, daughter Cathy Springer, son Larry Springer and his wife Kathy, daughter Nancy Ehlers and her husband Bill, son Mark Springer and his wife Terri, and son Jeff Springer. She also is survived by her grandchildren Milo Sewards, Patrick Sewards, Matthew Springer, Melanie Kambhampati, Kayla Springer, Larissa Ehlers, and Scott Springer. She had six great grandchildren, including sisters Payton and Dylan Sewards, sisters Amelia and RoseMarie Springer, Penn Sewards, and Ashwin Kambhampati.

Ethel requested a private service for immediate family members. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her over the past year.
