Mary Jeanne Walter Stephens, 97, of Allentown, PA, died peacefully on July 11 with loving family members at her bedside. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, to Sarah McElhinny and Henry Walter, she had a brother, Henry, Jr., and a sister, Phyllis, both of whom predeceased her. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1943, and married William H. Stephens, Jr. in August of that year. The marriage lasted 67 years until her husband’s death.

They had eight children: twins Susan and William, who died in infancy; Nancy, wife of the late Dr. Thomas Kennedy; William, husband of Elaine; James, husband of Jeanne; Cynthia, wife of Thomas Donley; Scott Andrew, husband of Jeanne; and Sally, wife of David Skidmore. Mary Jeanne is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Her large family loved her dearly and mourns her passing. Mary Jeanne will be fondly remembered for her selfless devotion to her family, her unfailing kindness, and her witty sense of humor, virtues that she maintained until her final days. A private memorial service will be held by the family.
