Emma L. (Snyder) Gehman

Emma L. (Snyder) Gehman, a longtime resident of Allentown, died on Monday, May 1, 2017, at the Pierce Memorial Nursing Home in Brooklyn, CT. Born in Pitman, PA, on June 8, 1916, she was 100 years old. The last survivor of 13 siblings, Mrs. Gehman was the daughter of the late Elmer K. and Bertha (Geise) Snyder. In 1920, when she was four years old, the family moved to New Tripoli. She traveled by train to their new home with her mother and sisters, while her father and brothers traveled by horse and wagon. On the day after Christmas, 1936, at her family home, she married Elton S. Gehman, who died in 1980. Two of her sisters died from juvenile diabetes prior to the invention of insulin, a drug which made at least 60 years of her own life
possible.

A beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, Mrs. Gehman is survived by a son, Arlan, and his wife, Linda, of Florida; a daughter, LaRue Cubie, of Connecticut; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Viewing hours for Mrs. Gehman will begin at the Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 W. Highland St., Allentown, at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, with a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. The interment will immediately follow at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown.
